Health Insurance for Retirees

Retired educators who were insured through the Educators Health Alliance (EHA) Blue Cross plan as an active employee and who are younger than 65 are eligible to continue their EHA insurance through EHA Direct-bill Retiree insurance.  Retirees may choose from among the four plans designed for retirees.  Married couples may choose two individual plans rather than enrolling in a plan to cover retiree-and-spouse if they have no dependent children who need insurance.  Click here to download information on Health insurance after you retire.

 

Retirees who are 65 or older at the time of retirement are eligible to enroll in Medicare.  If you are still working when you turn 65, you will keep your employer-sponsored plan until you actually retire before enrolling in Medicare.  Click here to download information on Making the transition to Medicare.

 

Educators’ Medicare Supplement provides additional coverage for retirees on Medicare.  Educators’ Medicare Supplement pays the deductibles and copays for Medicare, and is only available to educators who were insured through EHA at the time of their retirement or members of NSEA-Retired and their spouses.  You can find a video describing the benefits of Educators’ Medicare Supplement on the EHA website, https://www.ehaplan.org/retiree-info.
